Normal Distribution

Technologies used: C++, OpenGL, Lua, Android

My second collaboration with my wife, dance choreographer Hope Goldman, Normal distribution was a live real-time interactive dance piece that explores the influence of external forces. It was performed in 2013 in our Chicago loft apartment as part of Process Pieces, a self produced dance show for local artists to showcase work.

Everything you see was performed live for an audience.

Normal Distribution was the first piece to use my completely custom game engine, Coda. The engine itself was written in C++, but also contained an embedded a Lua scripting engine for the individual dance pieces, to allow rapid iteration without recompiling. The piece itself was controlled through an Android app that I wrote to serve as the live control software.
